Traveling abroad? Check out this handy planning list before you go.
As a CLUB WYNDHAM® Plus member, you can expand your travels even further through RCI, a Worldwide External Exchange company. Through RCI, you’re able to plan trips abroad to nearly 4,500 affiliated resorts in more than 100 countries. An international getaway is an exciting foray to someplace new, but there are more considerations when planning and packing. Consider this checklist the next time you travel internationally.
If you’re getting a passport for the first time, don’t wait until last minute — expedited passports can get pricey! If you already have a passport, check the expiration date. Some countries will not let you visit if your passport expires in 6 months or less. Also, check if the country you’re visiting requires an entrance or exit fee.
In addition to finding out if you should get inoculated, also consider taking along basic medications (such as ibuprofen) so you won’t have a potential language barrier at the store if you need them.
Find out the exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and the native currency — it pays to be informed! Make sure to have local cash on hand just in case. Also, notify your credit card company of your travel plans so their fraud department doesn’t flag your card.
Do you have an international calling and data plan? If not, be wary of costly charges if you use your phone. If you don’t plan on activating your phone’s global capabilities, make sure to look at road maps beforehand so you don’t end up with a costly Google Maps session.
Purchasing travel insurance may be a good idea, especially when traveling abroad. Travel insurance gives you peace of mind so you can focus on having fun, and it typically covers medical emergencies, roadside assistance, and stolen or lost items.
